Good hard drive, plenty of space, fairly quite. Good performance with the 64MB cache (most drives this size use 32MB). I bought this drive for a new build that had a SATA3 motherboard. After doing some quick benchmarks, this drive doesn't use up much more bandwidth than the SATA2 interface provides (typically falls short but a descent margin). So I am not sure when they deicded to give this drive a SATA3 interface, other for marketing reason of course.
Still a good drive, but if you can find a bigger or a cheaper SATA2 drive, go for it.

Hard drives fail. Thats what they do. The only way to solve this problem at least temporarily is to set up a redundantcy with two or more hard drives.

At first I thought this drive was noisy. It turned out that an oversized SATA cable was touching the removeable cover of the CPU case and transmitting vibrations. I opened the CPU cover and now everything is good. Need a new, flatter cable before I put the cover back on. The drive is quiet. My other two WD Caviar drives are quiet, too--one external (silent) and an internal green (almost silent). I'm very happy with WD drives.

I installed this hard drive in a PC I built and it works very well. It has the lager 64MB cash, 7200 RPM, and is as rugged as the come. This drive uses a ramp to park the heads off of the platters. I regard WD black drives to be the best for your PC or Mac
