Over clocks like there's no tomorrow June 3, 2010 D. J. Gilbert I've been using this proc for a little over a year now. It's fantastic, I have a D0 stepper and I've OCed it to 3.8 Ghz on air, (using the 120 extreme cooler). Great processor, incredible value for a base core i7 system.
So great May 28, 2010 Meng Cao (California, USA) I believe this is the best i7 out there and i7 is the best you can get now.
Easily overclocked to 4G, super stable, super powerful. I can feel AMD trembling lol
Just a reminder, it is hot. Go buy a decent cooler for this.
All the computing power that you need, and very overclockable! May 22, 2010 Carlos Carvajal (Caracas, Miranda, Venezuela) This processor is awesome. Besides it has a 130W TDP, it stays very cool. This is the same processor as the Extreme Edition but with the multiplier locked. You can overclock it as the Extreme Edition and beyond that so easily (with adequate cooling)!
I have my Core i7 920 easily overclocked to 3.5GHz and the system is stable even under the highest loads. This CPU is very, very powerful! You don't have to buy an Extreme Edition! Simply buy this and overclock it (and save the money for a nice video card!)!
Nice processor, intended for computer enthusiasts April 16, 2010 compuman (Livermore, CA, USA) I've been using this processor for about 1 month now, and it performs flawlessly. I would have to say, given it's higher price (compared to other processors) and high level of performance, at this time (early 2010) this unit is intended for computer enthusiasts like myself, and the average computer user would probably be happy with a less expensive processor.
This unit has 4 physical cores, so it's technically a "quad core" chip, however each core has hyperthreading automatically built in. This means 8 threads of data can be computed simultaneously.
Although you can run multiple programs at the same time (each program using a single thread of the processor), your programs must be specially designed to use ALL the threads at the same time. Many newer programs have been designed to use multiple threads. Photo/Video editing tasks are completed much faster with this chip.
If your budget allows, and you have a need for an (excessively) faster processor, I would highly recommend the Intel 920.
Freakin' Sweet CPU!! April 10, 2010 Damon Drake If you are going to get an i7 processor, I highly recommend you get the 920. The majority of them can overclock to over 4Ghz. The 930 is taking the place of the 920, but is the exact same CPU with a higher multiplier. Buy it, you won't be sorry!
