Portable and quiet September 8, 2010 Adrian Rodriguez Guido Up to this moment this drive has worked very well for me, it is very portable, doesn't make noise, and for me, 500 Gb are enough for my files. Very good purchase.
Very good Drive September 7, 2010 Charles Had this drive for awhile now and really enjoy it. It is small and portable and needs no other power source than USB. Works great on my HP mini.
Awesome Hard Drive September 6, 2010 Patrick Saloom (Pensacola, FL) One of the cheapest (in price, not quality) external hard drives I've ever found. It's works just like a USB drive. You just plug it in, then drag and drop files. No software needed. Very simple to use. Also works with Linux, which is a huge plus for me.
Works Flawlessly September 5, 2010 D. Cruise (California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I personally bought this item (the 640 gig model) for simply backing up music and pictures. Upon arrival, I plugged it in via the USB cable and Windows 7 recognized it and opened it. I then copied the folders I wanted to back up, hit paste in this drive, and about an hour later 60 gigs of music and pictures were saved onto a device barely larger than my iPhone.
No muss, no fuss. If you intend to use this as a full-time external hard drive, then I suppose you'd want to get the Seagate software to avoid the drive going to sleep issue I've seen other reviewers comment about. But if you have a ton of music, pics, and/or general stuff such as documents, spreadsheets, etc. etc. and would like to have all of them somewhere safe should your computer ever go belly-up, how much more can you ask for?
This device is simple, portable, and rather fast for only operating off the USB power supply. A definite 5-star rating.
It's very slow when it was idle for 10+ minutes September 2, 2010 Manuel Castro (Medellín, Colombia) The drive it's as advertised and all you expect (small, easy to connect, decent transfer), but what I really don't like is the slow response after the PC has been idle for several minutes, for being and external drive I expected a faster response, but sometimes I have to wait for 5 minutes for the drive to save a simple Word document, and sometimes I even have to retry.
